Drop in for a cuppa

Meals on Wheels service is more than just delivering a healthy and nutritious meal to our senior members in our community. We are introducing a new service to our clients who would appreciate more than just a meal.

Currently, Community Services students from TAFE Nowra are partnering with the North Shoalhaven Meals on Wheels to develop the Meals 2gether program. We are looking for volunteers that would like to visit seniors in their own home to share a meal, have a chat, play a game of cards, chess or listen to music.

Lisa Burns, manager of NSMOW states that “Some client’s only contact with the community is with our volunteers when they deliver meals. It would be great to build on this by sharing a meal, having a laugh and enjoying each other’s company.”

Volunteering can be so rewarding, and our volunteers are the heartbeat of Meals on Wheels.  Sue O’Brien a volunteer from Jervis Bay Meals on Wheels states “You don’t realise how much happiness you get from bringing joy to someone else. Sometimes It’s easy to forget that these people have lived full, interesting lives, until you start a conversation, then it’s fascinating to learn about them.”

If you have spare time and would like to be a volunteer to visit our seniors, we are looking forward to meeting you. Training will be provided to prepare you for home visiting.   Please contact the North Shoalhaven Meals on Wheels Manager Lisa Burns on 4422 5111 if you are interested in being part of this new service.
